Giordano Thailand delivers clothing to tsunami victims in Phuket
Hong Kong – January 3rd, 2005
Staff from Giordano Thailand visited Phuket and Phangnga from December 31, 2004 through January 2, 2005 to deliver 1,200 pieces of clothing to needy victims of the Boxing Day tsunami.
Tammy Toh, Operations Manager of Giordano Thailand, made the trip personally in order to ensure that the donated clothing reach the needy villagers as soon as possible. She reported that the damage was unbelievable, with "nothing left except debris and corpses. The villagers are homeless and countless are dead or missing. People described that they survived by climbing up coconut trees with more than ten people on a single tree. They climbed so high that when the water subsided they did not know how to get down. On the missing persons gallery, many families are missing, many families traveling in fours and sixes are left with one. There are many more stories that you cannot imagine. On the other hand, it feels warm to know that people care. They are so touched when they receive our clothes and food and water that even though they seemed expressionless before that, they broke down in tears. It is all very very sad. I am very thankful that we are still alive and that we still have our homes and families." Giordano Thailand also organized a donation drive among its staff for the tsunami victims.
Finally, Tammy reported that our Giordano counter in the Ocean Patong shopping mall, although located barely metres away from the disaster area, only sustained minor flood damages and thankfully all our staff were not affected.
