Following the success that it has enjoyed with its first store in India, Giordano has forged ahead with its store roll-out plan and has confirmed an additional 11 locations for opening over the next three years. The company will open two more outlets in 2006 and is on plan to achieve its target of having at least 20 outlets in India by the end of 2008.

“We have experienced strong traffic and sales growth at our Chennai City Center since it opened in May, and we expect the store to perform even better once the food court and multiplex cinema open in September. Most of our customers come from the upper middle business and professional classes and are familiar with Giordano from their travels to Dubai, Hong Kong and Singapore. Customer feedback has been very positive so far, with people commenting favorably not just on our merchandise and prices, but also on our service and shop ambience,” remarked Ishwar Chugani, Director of Giordano Fashions India.

“Chennai receives a lot of tourists from all over India, and we have received numerous enquiries about when we will open Giordano in other cities. The encouraging reaction in terms of strong sales growth and positive customer feedback reaffirms our conviction that Giordano has a bright future in India. We have re-doubled our efforts to secure additional store sites and will open two stores in Mumbai before the end of 2006. We have further confirmed six locations for opening in 2007 and three for 2009 in major cities including Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Mumbai. On the present schedule, we should have about ten stores opened by end-2007, if not more, and we are on track to achieve our goal of having at least 20 stores in India by end-2008,” Mr Chugani continued.
